Ballinafagh
Ballinafagh Lake is a small lake just outside Prosperous in Co. Kildare and is one of the best sites for dragonflies and damselflies in Ireland with 18 species having been recorded at the site (this amounts to approximately half of the total number of species that have been recorded in Ireland). Over the past two summers (2010 & 2009) I have spent quite a bit of time here putting together my A-Panel with photos of dragonflies all taken at this location.
It’s not brilliant for butterflies, but several species are quite common here including speckled wood, small copper, common blue, and peacock among others.
It’s also quite common to see Buzzards flying overhead, often being mobbed by crows.
